General method:

Basic intake estimate = body weight × 30 mL per kg

Estimated intake = basic estimate + activity adjustment

This is a simplified formula for general information. Real hydration needs can vary considerably.

Example Calculation

Suppose a person weighs 70 kg and selects moderate activity.

Basic estimate: 70 × 30 mL = 2,100 mL
Moderate activity adjustment: +550 mL
Estimated total: 2,650 mL/day
Approximately: 2.65 liters/day
